IITians huddled for a night of music and dance as they attended the University’s Year-End Celebration organized by the Kataastaasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA) on December 13, 2022 which took place outside the Mindanao State University (MSU-IIT) gymnasium.

Led with the theme “The Neon Light District”, students adorned themselves in colorful and lustrous clothing as the afternoon event kicked off at around 4 o’clock with the opening remarks of KASAMA Vice President, Jhune Ace Lubang.

This was shortly followed by the band performance of Mixed Signals who played an array of songs including Itchyworms’ Beer, Rihanna’s California King Bed, and Eraserheads’ Magasin as well as Ang Huling El Bimbo. A raffle draw for colleges: CON, CASS, and COET took place afterwards, which called upon students to come up on stage.

A series of dance performances by local groups came after. The first to perform was Aspire Cover Group who danced to a mash-up of Korean-Pop songs dressed in bright green fits. Second was The League of Aces who gave a flash mob-like performance and followed a colorful pastel theme in their outfits. And, the last to present were the MSU-IIT Orions who danced to a mash-up of Hip Hop music, donning maroon and dark green ensembles.

This was our first time performing this year at the campus so being nervous was natural but when I saw how much the audience cheered and hyped us up, the nerves eventually disappeared. I truly had a lot of fun tonight,,
Zobair, a member of Aspire Cover Group, expressed in an interview.

The second round of Raffle Draws, this time for colleges: CED, CSM, CCS, CEBA happened shortly after the group dance performances. After that came an hour-long set by IIT’s very own band, Echoes. Students sang along and danced to their song covers of Ben&Ben’s Ride Home, Kamikazee’s Huling Sayaw, Simple Plan’s Jet Lag, Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name, Walk The Moon’s Shut Up and Dance, Little Mix’s Shout out To My Ex, Taylor Swift’s Style, Love Story, That’s the Way I Loved You, and many more.

After the Major Prize Raffle Draw, a special guest performance was given by CASS’ House of Arachne who walked through the crowds, strutting the ensembles they crafted in celebration of the Neon Night.

The Neon Party officially took off around half past seven. With Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan extending the party for an hour more, students were able to make the most out of the Neon Night which ended at around 9 in the evening.
