As you step through the university gates, you're greeted by contagious smiles, the echoes of laughter, enthusiastic high-fives, and a dazzling brilliance that could rival any cityscape. The atmosphere is alive with surging energy, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of live music, inviting you to dance the night away. Amidst the glitz and glamor, adorned in disco flair that's nothing short of extraordinary, you find yourself on a journey down the aisle towards Rizal Park—a portal to Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology's very own Vegas Nightlife!
The Kataastaasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA), the university's Supreme Student Government, piqued interest for this year's General Assembly and Acquaintance Party (GAAP) by unveiling the theme on their Facebook page. The revelation of 'A Night in Vegas!' sent waves of excitement through the university community, igniting spirits across the campus. A glance around reveals intelligent clothing choices—whether brand-new, reused, or thrifted—showcasing IITians' undeniable sense of fashion, especially for this highly anticipated event. And, of course, the quest for the title of best-dressed adds an extra layer of thrill to the preparations, setting the stage for a night where style and celebration converge.
Diverse students from different colleges were selected as nominees, with each taking the chance to confidently showcase their outfits on the runway. The announcement eventually spotlighted the top three, securing the title of best-dressed at this year’s GAAP. With a mix of styles, inspirations, and icons, they undoubtedly had the best night in Vegas!
Bryan Joshua Ginon, a third-year BS Computer Application student from the College of Computer Sciences, clinched the first-ever best-dressed title. His outfit drew inspiration from the Groove Street Gang in the game GTA San Andreas. When asked about a motto for his outfit, he replied, "Gangstah!" He felt proud knowing he was awarded as the best dressed for this year’s GAAP, crediting it to the effort he put into thrifting his attire. When asked to describe his outfit in three words, he answered, "Geng Geng Geng!"
Next up is Jannella Mangyao, a first-year BA Filipino student from our very own College of Arts and Social Sciences. She found inspiration for her outfit in style icons like Kim Kardashian, Marilyn Monroe, and Jennie Kim from her first Met Gala appearance. When asked about a motto for her outfit, she confidently replied, “Slay always!” Upon learning that she was awarded as the best dressed for this year’s GAAP, she felt deeply honored, especially considering it was her first time attending the event. Initially thinking she might be overdressed, she didn't expect to receive an award for her somewhat reused and thrifted outfit. Nonetheless, she's happy because it appears that everyone appreciates her choice of attire. Describing her outfit in three words, she chose "Slay, Glamorous, and Gorgeous!"
Lastly, Novem Grace Caputol, a third-year BS Nursing student from the College of Health Sciences, mentioned that she had been preparing her outfit since last year when the GAAP was initially scheduled but got canceled. The inspiration behind her outfit was that she had in mind a Great Gatsby type of theme combined with a real casino vibe, considering the event's theme is Las Vegas, so that’s what she’s going for. When asked about a motto for her outfit, she answered without a doubt, “Make every way your runway!” The news of winning the best-dressed award at this year’s GAAP left her a bit overwhelmed since she didn’t expect it. She attended the event with the simple intention of dressing up, recalling her slight delay from the previous year, motivating her to arrive early this time. Her goal was just to get featured on Silahis or something, but receiving the award was unexpected for her. In three words, she described her outfit as “Bold, Chic, and Sexy!”
Conducting interviews with the top three best-dressed students uncovered their genuine reactions and emotions, highlighting a mix of accomplishment and overwhelming joy. Being acknowledged at this year's GAAP isn't just about winning; it's a moment of personal triumph as they receive the sash in front of a diverse and enthusiastic audience. Beyond the mere display of style and creativity, the GAAP serves as a meaningful stage where students not only showcase fashion but also embrace and celebrate their uniqueness. Each attendee becomes a living testament to the deep spirit of unity and self-expression within our university community, truly capturing the essence of this cherished event.
As the curtains fall on this year’s General Assembly and Acquaintance Party, its vibrant energy and dazzling fashion leave an indelible mark on our collective memories. Beyond the glitz, it becomes a valued annual event—a haven where students come together to celebrate and unwind. It serves as a sanctuary, offering solace and joy that act as a balm amid the challenges of academic life. The GAAP, with its captivating moments, is a symphony of unity, diversity, and the shared pursuit of self-discovery, creating memories that not only linger but dance eternally in the hearts of all who participate in its magic.
