MIPSA leads MSU-IIT NMPC Youth Cooperative’s session on IP Inclusion, Mainstreaming

by Maan Deuda

Following the success of their first learning session on Social Media Management last July, the MSU-IIT NMPC Youth Cooperative partnered with the MSU-IIT Indigenous People Student Advocates (MIPSA) to deliver their second session entitled “Indigenous People Inclusion and Mainstreaming” on August 24 at the MSU-IIT NMPC Head Office, Pala-o, Iligan City.

The workshop focused on advocacy building, allowing participants to recognize grassroots issues affecting Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and their respective communities, and to brainstorm solutions and feasible initiatives.

In attendance were selected representatives from various youth groups within Iligan City and MSU-IIT, with CASSayuran, the official college publication of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) among the participating organizations.

The first part of the session was graced by MIPSA President, Jhon Dave Manos, who gave a talk focusing on navigating the problems faced by IPs. Manos highlighted government loopholes in IP initiatives and discussed the lack of legal underpinnings that have led to the injustices affecting IPs and their respective communities.

Manos’ part laid the foundation for Hannah Valerie Acama’s talk entitled “IPitch” which emphasized on project pitching. Acama, MIPSA Vice President and Mx. IIT Influencer 2024, guided participants to contextualize general issues affecting IPs and brainstorming feasible solutions and initiatives. The session included a presentation of proposed solutions, with recognition given to the top three best proposals. The winning teams offered solutions addressing the basic needs of IPs, IP identification security, and livelihood initiatives respectively.

This event is part of NMPC Youth Cooperative’s five-month learning session project which focuses on youth involvement and the enhancement of various skills and competencies. The cooperative successfully conducted its first learning session on Social Media Management back on July 24.
