Cheers erupted and drums reverberated through the halls as the Seven Isles of Wisdom clashed in a fiery quest for domination during the Men’s Basketball preliminary games on Sunday, January 26.
Quickly rising up the ranks during the first day of the tournament were the Junior Philosophers’ Guild’s (JPG) Isle of Sophia and the MSU-IIT Historical Society’s (MIHS) Isle of Chronos, who earned back-to-back wins in their matches.
Meanwhile, the Psychology Society’s (PsychSoc) Isle of Psyche, MSU-IIT Sociology Society’s (MISS) Isle of Koinos, and the Literature, Language, and Culture Society’s (LILACS) Isle of Glossa each earned a win under their roster.
The day began with an intense opening match between Neoleides and Chronos. KAPILAS-Bayan emerged victorious, defeating MIHS with a 84-73 score. Immediately after, Logos clashed within Psyche. The latter dominated throughout, holding a steady lead and finishing with a 81-57 victory.
Meanwhile, Koinos and Sophia delivered a tight game, with close score gaps. JPG started strong with a 32-10 lead, but MISS fought back, closing the gap to 58-58 by the third quarter. Despite Koinos’ valiant comeback, Sophia regained control in the final moments, clinching the game at 77-75.
The fourth game saw Glossa take on Chronos. The latter maintained dominance throughout the match, leading 10-04, 22-48, and 71-42 in the first three quarters before concluding the game at 107-76.
The fifth game saw Psyche challenge Sophia, with the latter maintaining a consistent 10-point lead to obtain a 100-83 victory. Koinos then faced Logos in a decisive match, setting the tone early with a 20-9 lead and building on their advantage to secure their win at 88-58.
In the day’s seventh and final showdown, Koinos went up against Glossa, but the latter emerged triumphant with a final score of 70-54, closing an action-packed day of basketball in the land of Narnia.
The next set of matchups for the preliminaries resumed this afternoon, January 27, with the semifinals and championship games also set to take place later today.
