Playing traditional Filipino games such as chinese garter, patintero, sack race, and tug-of-war, the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), along with the six other colleges of MSU-IIT, competed in a friendly yet intense battle during the PALAKASAN 2025: Laro ng Lahi this afternoon, April 3 at the CASS Grounds and Rizal Park.
The event kicked off with a game of chinese garter, an adrenaline-pumping high jump competition where participants from each college showcased their agility and flexibility.
Meanwhile, the sack race turned into a fierce competition of speed, with each college fully engaged in the challenge. In the tug-of-war, CASS’ Tali proved their strength and teamwork, easily defeating their fellow players.
The Patintero game was equally intense and tightly contested, as defenders from each college remained highly alert, making it difficult for any attacker to score until time eventually ran out.
Nel Anthony Lluisma, a 4th-year BA Literary and Cultural Studies (BALCS) student, who represented CASS in chinese garter and sack race, shared a nostalgic reflection on his journey as a consistent representative of CASS since his sophomore year.
Having won almost every year, he expressed disappointment in this year’s loss. However, despite his winning streak being broken, he remained proud to have represented CASS in Laro ng Lahi each year.
Angel Faith Salvacion, a 4th-year BA English Language Students (BAELS) student and patintero player, shared that she made the most of her final PALAKASAN. “I tried to make more memories this year compared to the previous ones because I won’t have any PALAKASAN after I graduate.”
As the event unfolded, participants showcased their sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Regardless of whether they won or lost, each participant was awarded university merchandise as a token of appreciation.
