The College of Arts and Social Sciences’ (CASS) Tali team’s winning streak in the round-robin pre-games came to a halt in a third-place finish during the final four showdown of the PALAKASAN Esports: Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament on Sunday, March 30.
Despite their determined drive in the final stretch, Tali fell short in the top four clash, securing bronze after a grueling double-elimination tournament—ending their run with a loss to the College of Education’s (CED) Borealis & Blaze in the lower bracket semi-finals.
The tournament had begun with Tali’s battle against Borealis & Blaze which sent them down to the lower brackets on Saturday, March 29. Coming back venomous for redemption, they claimed a 2-0 win over the College of Economics, Business, and Accountancy’s (CEBA) Aurelion the next day, earning them a rematch with Borealis & Blaze in the semi-finals.
However, stomped by CED once again, their run ended just a victory shy of the finals. Though the top prize slipped from their grasp, CASS’ undeniable talent shone through, evident in their hard-earned journey to bronze.
Over the course of last month, Tali had dazzled with their prowess in the single-game round-robin pre-games, starting strong with decisive victories over CHS’ Nyxara and CED’s Borealis & Blaze on March 1. This was succeeded by a string of wins against CEBA’s Aurelion, CSM’s Blynx, CCS’ Beta Byte, and COE’s Nova in the following weeks. With six wins under their belt, they secured the top spot in the pre-games rankings.
Prior to the top four showdown last weekend, CASS Tali’s Jabez Jean Ventic shared in an interview that she did not expect their team to rank highest in the round-robin pre-games, expressing that while she was not personally confident, she did feel that they stood a chance.
“Personally, feel nako, kani nga team, mao jud pod kusog sa CASS right now. I feel like this is the best CASS can offer. Happy biya jud ko nga daog mi sa pre-games,” she shared.
Ventic also opened up about their team’s mindset, sharing that while they all had the same desire to win, they understood that mistakes could happen and they were focused on bouncing back if they did. She also noted her teammates’ relaxed approach, emphasizing how they often enjoyed the game, had fun, and cheered excitedly during matches.
“Gusto ko machampion jud mi but if dili gani kaya, sure man gihapon ko maka top 3 mi,” Ventic emphasized.
Although bronze was not the outcome CASS had set their eyes on, their performance in the PALAKASAN Esports: MLBB tournament demonstrated their determination and skill. After an impressive run in the round-robin pre-games, they pushed through a tough double-elimination tournament, putting it all on the line.
