With faith, trust, and pixie dust, the Mindanao State University - Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) Historical Society (MIHS) Primelle Fairies emerged as champions in this year’s CASS Days Quiz Bowl held at the CASS New Building, Room E53, yesterday morning, February 20.
Four participants from each of the seven fairy guilds—Kabataang Pilipinong Aakay sa Bayan (KAPILAS-Bayan) Kandili, Psychology Society (PsychSoc) Percipient Naiads, MSU-IIT Sociology Society (MISS) Order of the Prismlit Fairies, Junior Philosophers’ Guild (JPG) Wintermirths, Political Science Society (PSS) Florent Fairies, Literature, Language, and Culture Society (LILACS) Windweaving Fairies, and MIHS Primelle Fairies—battled with brainpower, society versus society in four straight rounds: easy, moderate, hard, and final.
Each round covered several categories in the field of the arts and social sciences, presenting a fair play of level of intellect among the participants.
All societies started strong with the easy round, accumulating close scores. As the questions increased in difficulty, MIHS kept their momentum of earning the most points since the moderate round, catching up to PSS’ previous high score from the easy round.
The competition also showed its poignancy with the elimination of some societies, including PsychSoc and MISS. Finally, after brain-tickling and never-ending threads of questions, the competition awarded the top three teams.
The final accumulated points were garnered by the following societies: PsychSoc Percipient Naiads with 42 points at 3rd place, LILACS Windweaving Fairies with 44 points at 2nd place, and the grand winners, MIHS Primelle Fairies’ Cyron Celso III Balmadres, Glenn Ian Penoso, Dee Sorino, and Althea Nichole Fernando, who earned 53 points.
Third-year Cyron Balmadres, one of the winners, expressed his thoughts and sentiments regarding their triumph.
“We’re very happy because this is actually our third time joining Quiz Bowl. We did not get to the top three during our first join, voted out of participation in our second, and now, nabawi najud namo,” he said.
Balmadres also added how they practiced really hard, dividing their training into three sections while targeting days with light schedules.
The Quiz Bowl event is only one of the numerous events held today in celebration of the start of CASS Days 2026. Set to last three days, this Pixie Hollow Games promises a vibrant showcase of intellect, talent, and camaraderie as the seven fairy societies go toe-to-toe for this year’s crown.
