MSU-IIT Welcoming Week Begins; CASS Marches with 399 Freshmen, COO Holds Historic Oath-Taking

Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) officially welcomed its 2,897 freshmen of Batch 2030 on Monday, August 10 as Welcoming Week commenced at the Institute Gymnasium, with the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) marching in 399 new students to begin their academic journey.

The event marked the beginning of campus life for the university’s newest members, filling the campus with fresh faces eager to embark on their academic journey.

This year’s program introduced the Sining ng Pagsalubong—a cultural showcase that celebrated the Institute’s pride and artistry through creative performances and diverse expressions. Featuring MSU-IIT’s resident performing groups (RPGs), the showcase highlighted the richness of campus traditions and the vibrance of student talent.

For CASS’s newest spiderlings, the week was more than just an introduction to college life; it was their first glimpse into the community they will soon call their web. As new faces filled the campus, the event invited students to weave connections, embrace traditions, and discover the friendships that will shape their journey.

Adding to the historic day was the MSU-IIT Council of Organizations (COO), which for the first time in its history joined the Institute’s opening activities by taking its oath of office in August instead of its usual September induction.

The oath-taking ceremony began with Batch 2030 leading the pledge, followed by the COO, together with the Kataas-taasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA), College Student Councils, and Society Mayors. The milestone marked a new chapter in student leadership and service, underscoring the unity of student leaders in embracing their responsibilities earlier than ever before.

The ceremony also emphasized collaboration among student councils and organizations, signaling a stronger alignment of leadership efforts across colleges and societies. By taking their oath alongside the freshmen, the COO and allied councils symbolically tied their commitment to service with the students’ first steps into academic life.

As MSU-IIT steps into a new academic year, the ceremonies stand as symbols of fresh faces, renewed passions, and a strengthened commitment to serving the student body and the wider community.
