PolSci Celebrates Int’l. Human Rights Day

Political Science students through the Department of Political Science in partnership with Local Government of Iligan, Lanao Alliance of Human Rights Advocate, Inc., and other civil society organizations conducted a series of activities to celebrate International Human Rights Day. The activities included a forum, jail visit, feeding program, and games.

The forum on Human Rights and Environment was held at the Mini-Theater last December 8, 2010. The forum sought to aware students about the environment and the issue of Climate Change. Dr. Ermelinda Tobias from Department of Biology, talked about Environmental Sustainability while Dr. David Almarez of Department of Political Science talked about Climate Change and and Human Rights. Ms. Maria Gittel Saquilabon the Executive Director of Sumpay Mindanao, Inc. enlightened the students about Food Sovereignty.

A visit to the City Jail was done the next day. Toiletries, bath soaps, shampoos, and toothpastes were given to 332 inmates.

To conclude the celebration, a medical mission, feeding program, and series of games were held at the IDS Hall.
