The History Majors celebrated their history week last September 17 2012 –September 22, 2012 with theme “KASAYSAYAN NG PILIPINAS, KASAMA KA”.
September 17 2012, the first day of the History Week was welcomed by a quiz show competition called the HISTOLYMPIAD Inter-high school division held at the IDS-Mini-theater. The said competition was participated by the different secondary schools in Iligan City. Professor Geoffrey Salgado, a faculty of the MSU-IIT History Department, took part as the quiz master.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was also held in the same day to open a MINSUPALA museum located in the Institute for Peace and Development (IPAD) Building near the Bahay Alumni. A photo exhibit promoting local histories was shown in this building. Together was the opening of the historical booths in the hallway between the History Department and Political Science Department. There were five booths; each of it represents the different tribes namely, the Higaonon, Bagobo, Maguindanao, Subanen and Tausug. The booths lasted for five days.
One of the activities in the History week was the Independent Film Showing which run in the whole duration of the celebration. It was only open for viewing among students taking up History courses 1, 3, and 5.
The following day September 18, 2012 will be the Histolympiads Inter-College division quiz show, which will be joined by the students of MSU-IIT who are taking up History 1, 2 & 3.
September 22, 2012, the History Major Students will have their Laro ng Lahi as part of their culminating program and in the afternoon will be the BATTLE OF THE HISTORIANS which will take part in the CASS lobby.
Finally, 5:30 in the afternoon is their Cultural Night; the activities are Mr. & Ms. History, Dance Craze and Kumbira. And after the cultural night, the awarding ceremony followed.
