Culture has always been part of MSU – IIT and has been continually proved to be present as it celebrates festivities with the undying Cultural Night. July 8th featured the Night of Songs and Dances named as KanYawan, a simplified version of the Kanta’t Sayawan competition.
In the spirit of being the leaders of culture and talent within the institute, the Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) started off the night with their colorful presentation of a cultural dance. More talent then came pouring in as KanYawan was kicked off with its first competition, the Harana, which is the olden Filipino way of singing as a way to swoon over their choice of partners in courtship.
As part of kicking it old school yet classy, the events for that night also featured a Folk Singing competition which in turn presents the Filipino version of being in the Glee club, piping out real Filipino music. Lastly, Kanta’t Sayawan also featured an Ethnic Dance competition which showcases traditional Filipino dances in true Filipino form.
Overall, the Night of Songs and Dances was filled with true Filipino colors as they program showcased the institute’s best talents from the best of cultural roots.
