CASSayuran held its virtual orientation on the evening of September 15th via Google Meet and had an attendance exceeding 30 students composed of new and old members of the publication. The participants were first-year, second-year, and third-year students from various courses of the College.
The members played games before starting the program. The Editor-in-Chief then started the event by welcoming the new members of the publication,
Welcome to CASSayuran, the official publication of CASS! To the Freshies, welcome to CASS. Thank you for applying, and I hope with your experience here in the CASSayuran, you will truly realize the importance of Campus Journalism.
Following the opening remarks of the EIC, the program was endowed with the presence of its adviser, Prof. Sittie Noffaisah Pasandalan. The esteemed Professor gave a short reflection on the history of the publication, its significance to the College, and its inclusive nature, among others. Professor Sittie was quick to recognize the high number of students in the publication this year and went on saying that,
The establishment and development of CASSayuran depend on you students, that no matter what you do as long as it benefits the organization, I support it.
Right after Prof. Sittie’s welcome, the editorial board of the publication was introduced, and one by one highlighted their experiences in campus journalism. The editorial board is composed of students who were active members in their school publications before college and were participants and winners of Schools Press Conferences. Some of them have also bagged awards in various writing competitions in the institute.
But whatever the experience, the skill of the student comes secondary, and this highlights the inclusive nature of CASSayuran. As the adviser would put it,
Skills for me is something I could teach. Skills for me is always something you could learn. But what's needed for this is actually your dedication.
The orientation lasted for two hours and was closed by one of the publication’s Associate Editors, who highlighted the significance of continuing to write and never losing the passion of doing it.
Indeed, the orientation was a way for new members of the publication to identify the members of the editorial board, raise their concerns, as well as establish stable rapport with one other.
