CASS’ new governor says EC will take more actions this semester

When I speak and have plans, I always make sure that I do them. Because what’s the point of speaking when you can’t put it into action. What’s the point of planning when you can’t accomplish it.

Former CASS Vice Governor Juan Miguel Rodriguez, who stepped as the college’s new Governor, remarked that the Executive Council (EC) will be more active and that students can expect a lot more actions this academic year’s second semester.

We will try to be the vessel of hope that even if times have been hard currently, the CASS-EC hopes that they [CASS students] can find a sense of home. They are not physically present in MSU-IIT, but they can feel pride that they are Arachnids,
he said.

In a virtual conversation with CASSayuran, Governor Rodriguez stated that improving the EC’s online presence would be his top priority for this semester and assuring that notable celebrations and important dates be remembered. He also hopes to spread awareness about the pressing issues in society.

The Philippines has always been problematic, and we face a lot of issues, and the last thing we don’t want to do in the CASS-EC is to be silent. The sociopolitical atmosphere in MSU-IIT is deafening that we don’t want to add any more silence, we need to speak, and the CASS-EC will always speak,
he uttered.

To help the Arachnids who are making ways to earn money while pandemic is still occurring, the governor plans to promote and advertise CASS students who are currently handling a local business, especially online sellers, streamers, and content creators.

Furthermore, he wants to promote MSU-IIT’s Mobile Legends Bang Bang community as he believes it strengthens the bond of the IITian players and alleviates stress.

When asked what he felt to accept the role of being responsible to the CASS students’ welfare, Governor Rodriguez admitted that there was a lot of pressure. However, he sees it as an opportunity to execute his way of leadership and said,
it allows me to be able to share my way of handling the people, which is I think empathy and understanding, I always want to offer hope.

Opening up his struggles as a student-leader, the Governor confessed that he feared feedback during his early years of leadership. According to him,
asking questions and seeking advice are signs of weakness for me before, I don’t want to be perceived as someone needing help because I once believed that I could do it on my own… However, throughout the years, I became familiar enough with my strengths and weaknesses, and to regard criticism as an opportunity for growth.

With that said, seeking opinions and listening to others, especially the council, making space for new and innovative ideas are essential, according to him, before coming up with a final decision.

Going back to the issue CASS-EC faced during the past semesters concerning the deficit amount on the academic year 2019-2020 unsettled liquidation (ReadKatotohanan sa alegasyon, idinetalye ng CASS Bise Gobernador); Governor Rodriguez said they are currently paying the unliquidated amount of thirty-three thousand five hundred pesos and forty-eight cents which is agreed unanimously to be divided equally. Once they are able to pay it in full, CASS-EC will post an official statement to announce the settlement.
