English Department Chair Dr. Maridette Molina rests in peace

Appointed English Department Chair, Dr. Maridette Molina, passed away on Tuesday, August 31.

Dr. Molina’s death was confirmed by her friends and colleagues who regarded her sudden passing as a “loss of one of the greatest mentors” in the academe. She was 52 years old.

Also known as “Ma’am Detdet” by her colleagues, the language educator worked as an associate professor before her appointment as the Department Chairperson of English last June of this year.

Not long ago, Dr. Molina obtained her Ph.D. in Linguistics, where she also made a notable feat by pioneering comprehensive research on the Butuanon reference grammar.

In spite of her passing, she will be remembered as a bearer of knowledge, a vibrant, kind, and motherly educator who will be forever engraved in our hearts. We may have lost a good soul, but we must live on the legacies she left behind.
