In the proclamation of winners of the recent KASAMA General Elections attended by the Executive Council (EC) of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) and their sibling ECs at the PRISM Hall last 25 October, CASSayuran got a quick chat with the Governor-elect of the CASS EC.
Mr. Earl Jhon Yray, a Senior Political Science student at CASS and the Governor-elect of CASS, spoke with CASSayuran briefly during the proclamation of winners. When asked to give his thoughts about the overdue proclamation, his voice became frail, and his eyes seemed tired yet still having a sense of glimmer of excitement. He shared how it was incredibly challenging to make ends meet.
He articulated that “we got so much pressure…as we are being recognised [by the students] as early as the election [results] as the governor and the officers of the College. So we are expected to deliver, despite the absence of a proclamation, since there are some students that have no idea what’s happening so that’s why they need someone guiding them in the events [and] with the programs of the College.”
The proclamation of winners is one step away from their official oath-taking into their respective offices. Perhaps a fitting word to describe this feeling of euphoria, as per the Vice-President-elect of KASAMA, is “finally.” Rightfully so, Earl reverberated this attitude and expressed how it was “very fulfilling simultaneously [and] relieving on our end because finally after long months of waiting we are here finally being acknowledged.”
What is striking about Earl’s sentiment is his receptive feeling towards those students who have extended their time and effort to the CASS EC during times of need, i.e., preparations for the College General Assembly and Acquaintance Party (GAAP). In Earl’s statement, he underlined the importance of those who helped the EC, “especially to those people who are with us during this whole duration of trials and challenges, and we can also acknowledge them with what they have helped in the EC,” the Governor-elect expressed.
