During the 25 October 2022 Proclamation event of the recent KASAMA General Elections attended by the Executive Council (EC) of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) and their sibling ECs, the Vice Chancellor for Student Services, Vice Chancellor Rohanne M. Derogongan, shares to the newly proclaimed leaders her excitement for the fresh batch of leaders and reveals the University Chancellor's promise of a "grand oath-taking ceremony."
In the introduction given by the Director of the Office of Student Development Services (OSDS), Prof. Phyllis Marie S. Teanco, she articulated how the Vice Chancellor for Student Services carried the load and stress of the KASAMA posts and troubles for months. Nonetheless, the September resolution promulgated by the Office of the Chancellor allowed the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Services (OVCSS) and OSDS to proclaim the new batch of student leaders for this academic year.
Prof. Derogongan shared how she has mixed feelings about the proclamation of winners; albeit "gladness sits atop," she expressed. The Vice Chancellor added that “mahaba-haba man ang prusisyon, sa simbahan din ang direksyon.”
"The process may have been long, but the church is the final stop at the end." The address reflects how the officers were not officially proclaimed for months on end subsequent to the General Elections yet continued to provide service to their respective constituencies; and are now officially being recognized and proclaimed.
The Vice Chancellor also shared with the audience that her office, OVCSS, is excited about two main things. The first is with the installation of the new Director of OSDS, Prof. Phyllis Marie S. Teanco. Second, because of the new set of officers for this year.
As early as August, the various Executive Council officers from the various Colleges in the University have already been aware of the plethora of activities laid out by the OVCSS. For this, the Vice Chancellor asked the help of the newly proclaimed student leaders. She said, "in most of these activities that we have set in place, we value your cooperation; we really need you, actually. That's the very truth."
The Vice Chancellor gave the officers a sneak peek about their oath-taking when she articulated that "we started with the proclamation, but as promised by our Chancellor, there will be a grand oath-taking…you deserve it because you are the set of officers who were not even proclaimed and sworn into office but are already working."
As a closing remark, she expressed her gratitude to the attending officers. She noted how they "...were challenged yet were motivated and determined to serve the Institute and the studentry as a whole."
