Student Officers from CASS EC, KASAMA, and other Executive Councils get Inaugurated



College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) Executive Council (EC) together with other college representatives and institute student-leaders was officially sworn into office during the KASAMA Inauguration, held at MSU-IIT Mini-Amphitheater on November 22, 2022.

Director of the Office of the Vice Chancellor and Student Services, Prof. Rohane Derogongan opened the program with remarks highlighting the importance of civility in the mandate of the office the student leaders will soon hold. "Relationship and respect makes us one," she said.

Following Prof. Derongongan's welcome message, the Director of Student Development Services, Prof. Phyllis Marie S. Teanco introduced the college executive councils and KASAMA institute-level officers respectively for the oath-taking.

Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan graces the event as the student leaders have taken their oath of office before himself.

In his message, Chancellor Ditucalan expressed his congratulatory message to the newly-installed student leaders.

Your experience to the campus in serving your colleagues is a training ground for bigger and more complex environment as you eventually leave the portals of the university to serve the society, to serve your respective professions, and to be of service to the bigger community,
he said.

Moreover, he underscored his realizations and experiences channeled from the months of his Chancellorship. He added the significance of collective vision to actualize a goal yet at the same time reminded students that there will also be a time for them to 'stand apart from the collective and remain unintimidated to the popular opinion.' Lastly, he stressed the need to exercise prudence as student leaders' words demand bearing.

After the Chancellor has expressed his remarks, then-Vice President and now KASAMA President Veanamari Elise Santillan has relayed her inaugural speech. She urged fellow student leaders to become the very leaders they aspire to have.

We should face the adversaries with grace, respect, professionalism, and willingness to camaraderie in problem-solving because we are also role models that influence the future, our future,
she expressed.

It was noted that in lieu of President-elect Pierre Paul Pitogo's resignation, Section 4 of Article 5 of the Kasama Constitution and By-Laws (CBL) has been invoked, hence the Vice President succeeded as the President and shall serve the unexpired term of her predecessor.

Then-Board member Jhune Ace Lubang and now the current Vice President, in his closing message, encouraged fellow student leaders to move forward and bring the past as lessons in life.

Meanwhile, in an interview with CASSayuran, Mr. Fritz Charles Neri, CASS EC Vice Governor, expressed how immaterial of the ceremony, CASS EC has always been at the forefront of consistent and persevering service, and now that their positions have become official, the continuation of such value of leadership is expected as well.

In a phone interview with Ms. Nina Marie Tomarong, CASS EC Board Member, she expressed how the long wait is finally over.


Serving the studentry of CASS has been a very long roller coaster ride and today marks the start as an official member of the Executive Council under the KASAMA. After we have undergone several events that happened to KASAMA and its constituents, it helped us strengthen our core to serve the CASS studentry.
