KASAMA President Resigns



After days of buzzing about the current status of the KASAMA President-elect whether he has resigned or otherwise, the Kataas-taasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA) has published a two-page Statement in their Facebook Page concerning the official resignation of the KASAMA President-elect Pierre Paul Pitogo.

The statement reads,
Pierre Paul B. Pitogo filed a Letter of Resignation addressed to the Office of Student Development and Services, giving his intent of irrevocably relinquishing his position due to personal reasons bearing the sentiments "I have decided to step down as the president of KASAMA. To be honest, I really wanted to lead and to be the voice of the students but I can't do that if my mental health condition is not good."


It is then added that the Council has supported Pitogo's motion. Thus an automatic succession of powers shall ensue, which puts current Vice-President-Elect Veanamari Elise Santillan in the KASAMA Presidential post.

In Article V Section 7 of the Constitution and By-Laws (CBL) of KASAMA, on the duties of Vice President -
The Vice-President shall succeed the President in case of death, permanent disability, and removal from office, or resignation of the latter, serving only the unexpired term and shall perform all the powers, duties and functions of the President;.


In addition to that, the Senate President shall succeed the Vice President. In Article VI Section 2 of the KASAMA CBL,
The Senate President shall succeed the President and/or Vice President in case of death, permanent disability, and removal from the office, or resignation of the latter, serving only the unexpired term and shall perform all the powers, duties and functions of the President and or Vice President.


In the latter portion of the Official Statement, the Public is to be informed that the KASAMA will be holding a Special Meeting Election for the vacancy of the two remaining Senatorial Posts. The Official Statement reads,
this is in accordance with Article VI Section 3, by in the Institute Legislative Body, a special meeting election may be called to fill in such vacancy in the manner prescribed by the Institute Legislative Body, but the member of the Institute Legislative Body thus elected shall serve only for the unexpired term.


Mr. Pitogo and Ms. Santillan are both Junior Undergraduate Students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS).
