Broadcasting Live! CASS Societies Showcased their Journalistic Flair at CASSadadya 2023

On the first day of CASSADYA 2023, the seven societies from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) competed for the script writing and radio broadcasting. Each society showed off their skills in script writing and technical ability in radio broadcasting.

The participants were given an orientation of the guidelines before being divided into separate rooms. Room 116 was occupied by the Political Science and History team; Filipino and Philosophy team in room 118; Psychology team in room 218; and Sociology team in room 219. The teams were told stay in their respective rooms and were given a marshal.

The event was officially supposed to start at 9:00 AM, however due to the weather conditions, all events had to be recalibrated hence the delay. By 10:20 in the morning the script writing event officially started. Each team collaborated to come up with a script for about an hour and half. By 12:20, the script writing event was done, and scripts for the 5 minute radio broadcasting were printed. According to one of the participants, “the script writing was fun and okay, and so far we have had no problems aside from the technical problem, which was given a solution immediately.” The participants were given one hour and a half to practice.

In the afternoon, the radio broadcasting simulation started. Each team were given an over all of 8 minutes broken down into: 2 minutes for preparation, 5 minutes for the actual broadcast, and 1 minute for the exit. For the participants to be fully aware of the time, flags were raised. A green flag is a go sign; a yellow flag warns the participants that they only have 1 minute left; and a red flag means time is up.

The final simulation was held at the CASSalida Theater. Winners from each category of the broadcast shall be the ones to compose the team to represent the College for the upcoming Palakasan 2023.
