Four societies emerged victorious in the Preliminary Round of the Esports: Mobile Legends Competition hosted during CASS Days. These winning teams are KAPILAS-Bayan with a 2-0 score, Psychology with a 2-0 score, ABEO with a 2-0 score, and Political Science with a 2-1 score.
As part of the series of competitions celebrating CASSadya 2023, eight teams battled it out in the first phase of the double-elimination competition on February 18 at the CASS Lobby.
When asked how the winning teams prepared, Kapilas Bayan’s tournament MVP, Sighmund Labador, shared that they allotted time to screen and practice with their team. To this question, Psychology player Jabez Jean Ventic expressed similar sentiments as their team also had to screen for members to prepare for the tournament.
Out of the four preliminary tournaments: KAPILAS-Bayan vs Philosophy, Political Science vs History, Psychology vs Sociology, and ABEO vs CASS EC, three teams swept their wins while Political Science and History engaged in a heated best-of-3 match.
In an interview, Prime Azriel Go, Captain of the Political Science ML Team, conveyed, “All the teams here in CASS are made up of strong players, so we didn’t expect to win at all. We weren’t able to prepare much either since we only practiced from time to time. So, we’re happy to win and, at the same time, relieved since the History team [was] our toughest opponent today.”
Six tournaments in a best-of-5 match are expected for Semi-Finals. With the winning teams playing as part of the upper bracket, Kapilas-Bayan will go against Political Science, while Psychology will compete against ABEO.
Furthermore, for the teams in the lower bracket: Philosophy, Sociology, CASS EC, and History, a second round of eliminations is set to continue this Monday. With Sociology currently leading, competing teams for the lower bracket tournaments have yet to be announced as Semi-Finals are still waiting to happen.
The game follows a double-elimination process and will undergo a three-phase round: Elimination, Semi-Finals, and Finals, giving teams two chances to vie for victory. With the results of the preliminary rounds already out, the Semi-Finals and Finals are set to happen on February 20 and 21, respectively.
