It’s a Wrap! MSU IIT Department of English Concludes ComE with Us!

The Department of English at MSU IIT, in collaboration with the Faculty of Language Education at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Indonesia, recently concluded the three-day community extension program titled "ComE with Us!": A Teacher Mentoring Program on the Use of ICT in Differentiated Instruction (DI) and Project-Based Learning (PBL) Towards Inclusive Education. The program culminated on March 05, 2023, at the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), with educators from various secondary schools in Iligan City taking part.)

Over the course of the program, teacher-participants gained valuable insights and innovative ideas to create more inclusive and engaging classrooms that cater to the varying learning styles and capabilities of their students. On the first day, the program introduced differentiated instruction (DI) and its various strategies and components for teaching skills such as reading, listening, speaking, and writing.)

On the second day, the focus shifted towards maximizing the use of technology and media to disseminate knowledge while also implementing differentiated instruction. Teacher-participants presented their differentiated lesson plans to everyone, where they navigated different techniques to effectively apply DI across various subject matters.)

During the final day of the program, the teacher-participants created their own learning site and action research plan, focusing on the main learning problem faced by their respective schools. The lecture on project-based learning (PjBL) and action research in relation to DI prepared the teacher-participants to complete their action research plans effectively.)

Throughout the three-day extension program, the teacher-participants received substantial information and instruction in teaching practices, which is a significant aspect of creating a learning environment that caters to the students’ diverse learning needs. As the program concluded, the teacher-participants are now equipped with the skills and awareness to teach 21st-century education and catch up with the emerging trends in education.)
