The last leg of the Linguistic Society of the Philippines International Conference (LSPIC) 2023 opened its session early in the morning in multiple venues around the Mindanao State University - Iligan Instite of Technology (MSU-IIT) for its Concurrent Session F and G (all of which are Parallel Paper Presentations).
Day three also introduced the third plenary session held at the Plenary Hall (the MSU-IIT Gymnasium). The plenary speaker was none other than James McLellan from the Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The three key ares that Dr. McLellan delved on was on decentering, decolonizing, and deconstructing languages and how it is problematized.
Subsequent to the plenary session was the LSP Featured Panel. The panel involved experts from various key areas in Southeast Asia. The first of which was Dr. Shameem Galea the President of the Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics, followed by Dr. Kornwipa Poonpon the President of the Thailand Association of Applied Linguistics, and Professors from several Universities in the Philippines. Dr. Shirley Dita from the De La Salle University, Dr. Alejandro Bernardo from the University of Santo Tomas, and Dr. Irish Fernandez-Dalona from the MSU-IIT. Each panel member presented their own case studies from their respective institutions and countries.
Afterwards, Azirah Hashim, the President of The International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA) gave the closing keynote address. President Hashim highlighted the Internationalisation of Higher Education and English as a Medium of Instruction in the Association of South East Asian Nation countries (ASEAN).
After Hashim's keynote, special announcements were made particularly other academic conferences, fora, concerning linguistics.
