Stepping into the hallowed corridors of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) is akin to entering a world buzzing with intellectual rigor, ethereal ideas, and heartfelt humanity. It's a life-altering experience wrapped up in the philosophical mantra "Husay at Talino, Puso at Konsensya," a call to arms for genuine excellence, compassion, and ethical responsibility. For the newest batch of CASS students, or "freshies" as they affectionately refer to themselves, day one marks the beginning of a transformative journey.
"It's All About the Vibes!"
Vaughn Lebenswelt Banate, a blossoming BA Psychology student, sensed it immediately: a palpable friendliness in the air. "The vibes in CASS are nice; it literally focuses on society and the humanities. I like the vibe on the lawn," she shares. This sentiment is echoed across the board by freshmen who feel that CASS doesn't just talk the talk but walks the walk.
The Lawn as a Catalyst for Courage
For Farnisa Mamao, a BA History entrant, her first day was marked by an unexpected sense of resolve. "I didn't expect to be part of CASS, but when I saw the lawn, I had the guts to pursue the course given to me, even though it wasn't my preferred choice," she marvels. It appears that even the very landscape of CASS has a transformative effect on these young scholars.
A Symphony of Moods
Abdul Hayy Banyga, a Political Science novice, put it succinctly: "Good." Siena Dejos from ABEO poetically elaborates on this positive atmosphere. "The mood is happy, carefree; I can really feel the vibes and experience less pressure," she says.
The Inclusiveness of Seniors: A Warm Welcome
Samuel Harry Adlaon, enrolled in BA Philosophy, noted the infectious camaraderie extended by seniors. "Everyone is so welcoming, especially the seniors; they always smile and greet you 'good morning,' even if they don't know you well yet," he enthuses. This sense of inclusivity is ratified by Abby Kaye Rico, a Sociology student, who emphasizes the necessity of self-confidence. "The seniors are friendly; they really make you feel accommodated. So far, so good," she smiles.
Where Minds Ignite and Hearts Take Flight
At CASS, freshmen are more than just faceless numbers in an ever-expanding academic institution. They are burgeoning artists, future policymakers, and social innovators. With an environment that nurtures both mind and soul, CASS paves the way for these young adults to not just survive but thrive.
From critical thinking to societal involvement, the CASS environment serves as a fertile ground for cultivating what the tagline "Husay at Talino, Puso at Konsensya" embodies. Freshmen here are not merely students; they're eager learners and perhaps even future leaders, poised to make a dent in the world.
In Their Own Words
The freshness and energy of these 'freshies' blend well with the time-honored traditions and seasoned wisdom at CASS. Together, they serve as a dynamic interplay of what makes CASS not just an educational institution but a microcosm of society at large—teeming with possibilities, bubbling with youthful enthusiasm, and geared toward making lasting change.
So, as these freshmen embark on their academic odysseys, fueled by their innate vigor, commitment, and intellectual curiosity, they're not just experiencing college. They're living the CASS philosophy—one that prepares them to not only excel academically but to be compassionate and socially responsible beings. And in their journey, they might just redefine what it means to be a student in the 21st century.
