Defending the Throne: Historical Society's Back-to-Back Chant Championship Win

On the bustling lawn of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, vibrant voices can be heard resonating through the air. "Kiat Socio!", "Ariba Pilosopiya!", "Pa-dayon siko-lohiya!", "La- Kapilas La-La Kapilas!", "Viva Historia!", "Sik-hai Pol-sci!," and "Laban ABEO, Shagit ABEO!"—these seven distinct chants, each representing a unique society, filled the atmosphere as welcoming week 2023 came to an end. But among these, one voice emerged victorious for the second year running: the Historical Society.

The Society Chant Competition is not just a contest; it's a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and identity. Students from various societies work together to develop strong, resonant chants that leave an indelible mark on their listeners. This year's competition proved no different, displaying the astounding depth and variety of talent present within the College of Arts and Social Sciences.

Each society's chant is more than just a rhythmic verse; it tells a story and conveys a message. The chants transcend spoken word and melody to become actual embodiments of the values and beliefs of the students. Inclusivity, empowerment, pride, and tradition are defining features of the competition, and they were displayed with resounding clarity throughout the event.

The Historical Society's triumphant back-to-back win was a highlight of the competition. Their chant, resonant with calls for truth, integrity, and a rejection of distortionism and denialism, struck a chord with all in attendance. “Honor the past, let the truth amass. No to historical distortionism, No to historical denialism. Viva historia! Viva viva viva!" they declared, a battle cry for not just their society but for all who value the role of history in shaping our present and future. As their chant says, "Kami ang mga marites, dala namo ang chismis, di mi pa alkansi, di mi magpa ulahi, una sa balita di na gyud mabang-bang"

These seven chants, each unique, are more than just performances; they are potent symbols of solidarity, identity, and purpose. Reflecting various interests and goals, the chants capture the essence of what it means to be part of a community united by shared principles and passions.

The societies serve as shining examples of how chants can transform a group of individuals into a cohesive community. Their entrancing melodies, captivating lyrics, and spirited performances ignited change and left a lasting impression on all who heard them.

The Society Chant Competition of 2023 will be remembered not just for the Historical Society's consecutive win but for the way it brought together diverse voices under a shared banner of creativity, unity, and purpose.

In a world increasingly divided, events like these remind us of the power of collaboration and the importance of upholding our shared values. The competition was a testament to the transformative potential of chants, a celebration of community, and a resonant call to "Husay at Talino, Puso at Konsensya."

Through this event, the College of Arts and Social Sciences demonstrated that the spirit of unity, creativity, and perseverance lives on, echoing through the halls of academia and resonating with a new generation of scholars committed to excellence.
