Remarkable Journey Unfolds: Reliving Undivided Lanao's Forgotten Past via Captivating Moments

As we gear up to celebrate History Month 2023, the MSU-IIT Department of History, in collaboration with the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage - Lanao del Sur Office, the Mindanao Heritage and Indigenous Research Center, and the MSU-IIT Historical Society, concluded a remarkable journey through time. Through an engrossing photo exhibit titled, "A Journey Through Time: An Exhibit of Historical Photos of the Undivided Lanao During the American Colonial Administration," guests had the privilege to delve deeper into the rich historical legacy of undivided Lanao during the American colonial era.

The purpose of the photo exhibition is to provide a thorough visual account of the undivided Lanao region under the occupation of the Americans. Viewers are taken back in time to explore the various dimensions of Lanao's social, cultural, and political landscape by the presentation of old photos.

The joint effort between the MSU-IIT Department of History, the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage - Lanao del Sur Office, the Mindanao Heritage and Indigenous Research Center, and the MSU-IIT Historical Society highlights the significance of collaborative endeavors in preserving and disseminating historical knowledge. By joining forces, these organizations mutually enhance the exhibit's content, bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise in showcasing the undivided Lanao's captivating legacy.

"A Journey Through Time" offers educational possibilities for both students and the general public, in addition to its cultural relevance. The exhibit seeks to foster critical thinking, foster cultural appreciation, and create a deeper comprehension of Mindanao's rich historical tapestry through various educational efforts.

According to Petejon Benson, a 4th year History student, "the exhibit shows you the experiences of American forces as they travel in Mindanao, specifically on the once, undivided Lanao.” For the history student, this exhibit allows us to learn the shared provincial history of today's Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, and to determine the influence of American forces on the natives while pacifying the area. "This exhibit allows the entire CASS to appreciate the value of education, cultural diversity, and the milestones achieved by the people of Lanao today. Moreover, as we celebrate the History Month of August, may we maintain in our hearts that we Filipinos are a product of various struggles in the past that shattered our chances to unite. Regardless of the belief we practiced, learning what transpired at Lanao in the past will help us obtain the true sense of unity." He added.

The photo display, "A Journey Through Time: An Exhibit of Historical Photos of the Undivided Lanao During the American Colonial Administration," provides historians, students, and the general public with an immersive opportunity to relive the distinct history of the undivided Lanao during the American colonial era. This initiative underscores the need of protecting cultural assets while also highlighting the strength of cooperation and group action in showcasing and remembering the historical legacies that have influenced our society. As we advance toward a better future, let's take advantage of this chance to commemorate, appreciate, and look back on our past.
