Today holds immense significance as the Mindanao State University System commemorates its 62nd Foundation Day. Originating on September 1, 1961, in Marawi City, the establishment owes its existence to Republic Act 1387, championed by the late Senator Domocao A. Alonto. Over the years, this distinguished system has blossomed from its modest origins into one of the foremost educational institutions in the southern Philippines.
The primary objectives of RA 1387 encompass three critical aspects: firstly, to educate the youth of Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan (MINSUPALA) by offering a spectrum of degree programs across diverse fields of study; secondly, to fulfill the manpower demands of regional businesses and industries; and thirdly, to facilitate the integration of Muslims and other cultural minorities into the fabric of national life. Across more than six decades, MSU has stood as a trailblazer in innovation, research, and academic eminence. The institution has nurtured numerous luminaries, including leaders, scientists, artists, and professionals, whose contributions have resonated within the Philippines and across the globe.
This year's Foundation Day theme, "MSU at 62: Celebrating Watershed Moments of Embodying Peace and Unity through Diversity and Inclusivity," encapsulates the ethos of the occasion. As we commemorate this special day, it remains pivotal to hark back to its foundational purpose – the democratization of education. In doing so, we extend our gratitude by paying it forward.
The institution has served as a fount of academic wisdom, as well as a crucible of values, character, and inclusiveness. Standing on this day, we take pride in our history and remain more steadfast than ever in our dedication to our students and the nation.
Amidst these trying times, the resilience and adaptability exhibited by MSU campuses are truly commendable. Swiftly embracing the digital transformation in education, the institution has ensured uninterrupted learning despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
Casting our gaze toward the horizon, it's evident that MSU's brilliance will persist, illuminating the path for the forthcoming generation of Filipino scholars, innovators, and leaders. On its 62nd Foundation Day, we celebrate and express our gratitude to MSU for its lasting legacy of excellence and its unwavering commitment to the Filipino youth. Fortunate to be part of this legacy, we stand together with MSU in gratitude and anticipation of a brighter future.
