Officially wrapping up this year’s welcome for new students, the Office of the Guidance and Counseling (OGC) held its Annual College Life Symposium (ACLS) for freshmen and transferee students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) on September 13, 2023, at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium.

The ACLS aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge on what to expect as they traverse their college journey.

The official program began with an opening remark by the acting Assistant Dean. Consequently, Michae Ella A. Digo, a summa cum laude alumna from CASS, shared how IIT has been instrumental in her meaningful college journey, underscoring both failures and successes.

After an intermission number, a motivational talk by Psychometrician Rhoie Jhannarie D. Omlero followed suit. In her talk, Omlero emphasized that college life at MSU-IIT, specifically in CASS, isn't just limited to academics— that there are other facets to explore.

The students were then given an opportunity to ask questions during the open forum part of the program.

“I found the event informative and helpful, especially since I’m still a freshie navigating through college. The advice that the speakers gave during the open forum genuinely helped me out a lot,” expressed BS Psychology student, Angel Mamauag in a written interview.

In attendance were the 424 CASS freshmen and transferees. A turn out of 79 students from the Psychology Society, 80 students from the Sociological Society, 83 students from the Historical Society, 41 students from the Junior Philosopher’s Guild, 40 students from the Political Science Society, 80 students from the KAPILAS-Bayan, and 161 students from ABEO.

Meanwhile, the event excuses all participating first-year students, transferees, and members of the Organization of Student Peer Facilitators (OSPF) and Learning Assistance Volunteers (LAV) who served as members of the working committee.
