BALCONY, ILIGAN CITY — In celebration of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) 40th founding anniversary, faculty and staff gather in their exquisite and gleaming Gala Night fits, last January 24, 2023, emblazing the breakthrough forged by the people behind the heart and soul of the institute.
The event also highlighted the awarding of the honorary rank of Gawad Bargas – the highest recognition granted by CASS to outstanding alumni from the different departments exuding exceptional contributions to society.
Jean Graciela E. Peñola, Keziah Anne L. Procianos, Ruhollah Al-Hussieni J. Alonto, Pablio L. Benitez Jr., Lou S. Llanes, and Anita S. Cipriano were among this year’s Gawad Bargas awardee. Despite coming from diverse fields, their acceptance speech echoed the same sentiment: gratitude for the college for staging their success as they stood in front leveled by their roots.
The program bestowed recognition as well for the CASS Staff and faculty with extension projects, research papers, and publications.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Marie Joy Banawa made it known that in her stint as the longest-sitting Dean of the college, she is fully aware and confident of how the college’s workforce truly delivers. She thanked everyone, from instructors and people working closely at the Dean’s office for rendering their remarkable service to CASS.
This festive assemblage is also graced by a product of CASS and a former Gawad Bargas awardee— Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan. Along with him are key figures from the institute such as Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs, Prof. Nancy Q. Echavez, Vice Chancellor for Student Services, Prof. Rohane Derogongan, and OSDS Director, Asst. Prof. Phyllis Marie S. Teanco.
The Chancellor then conveyed his inspirational message reminiscent of his budding years in CASS as a “force of circumstance”. He revealed how he hopped from one degree program to another yet the college welcomed him — until he became who he is right now— one of CASS’ pride.
Drawing the program to a close, Asst. Dean Prof. Sittie Nofaisah Pasandalan, in her remarks, likened CASS to a gem, tied as a symbol of passion and strength. Truly, living up to its name as PinakamalaCASS.
The Gala Night featured feast and festivities collectively adorned with glittering smiles and flashy moves, as faculty and staff took the center stage to dance the night away.
