“The itsy bitsy spider crawled up the water spout. Down came the rain, and washed the spider out. Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain. And, the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again…”
The CASS Lethal Arachnids proved to be nothing short of tenacious and resilient, much like the itsy bitsy spider in the popular children’s song. Both CASS teams secured back-to-back wins against the CHS Icy Sharks and CEBA Griffin Gods in Game 6 and 8 of the PALAKASAN Men’s and Women’s Futsal double-elimination tournament on April 28 at the IDS Multi-Purpose Hall.
After being both previously annihilated by the COE Flaming Dragons in the opening round on April 27, the Arachnids made the most of their defeat, displaying their intense tenacity against opponents as they breezed through the lower brackets.
The morning saw a fast-paced match between the CHS Icy Sharks and CASS Lethal Arachnids. With quick passing and tight defenses, the CASS Men’s team edged out CHS in a close 3-2 game. Despite the Sharks’ valiant attempts to equalize, the Arachnids’ assertive defense held strong, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on every opportunity until the final whistle. Raihann Omar from the Lethal Arachnids was recognized as the top player of the match.
Meanwhile, in a tense defensive battle between the women teams, the CASS Lethal Arachnids secured a narrow 1-0 victory over the CHS Icy Sharks. The lone goal came from an unlikely source - a misplaced touch by a Shark defender. Deep in their own half, the Arachnids were pressuring for a steal, and a Shark player attempting a pass ended up kicking the ball past their own goalkeeper. As the game dragged on, the stunned Sharks could not recover in time, leaving the Arachnids victorious. CASS Team Captain Erikkshyne Lumanas was named as top player for this match.
The afternoon continued with Game 8 against the CEBA Griffin Gods for the Men’s teams. The Lethal Arachnids netted the game’s first goal within the opening minutes, soon adding another to take a 2-0 lead. The CEBA Griffin Gods refused to be rattled, however, and battled back to pull one goal back and make it 3-1. Despite their efforts, the Arachnids proved too strong, adding a fourth goal to seal a convincing 4-1 victory. CASS Team Captain Manny Villacampo, Jr. was dubbed the top player for this game.
For the CASS Women’s Futsal team, the Lethal Arachnids were able to stifle the Griffin Gods in a dominating 2-0 match. The Arachnids swarmed the Gods, forcing turnovers and counter-attacks. Stifling defense soon shut down the Griffins, leaving the Arachnids with back-to-back wins. Angel Alarcon from the Lethal Arachnids was acknowledged as top player for this game.
The PALAKASAN Men’s and Women’s Futsal double-elimination tournament is set to continue onto the semifinals on April 29 and finals on April 30.
