Lethal Arachnids catch fire in Futsal Prelims

By Andrea Ross Sedero

The CASS Lethal Arachnids were put to the test against the COE Flaming Dragons whose fiery performance caused the Damangs their upper bracket spots during the opening round of the PALAKASAN Men’s and Women’s Futsal double-elimination tournament on April 27 at the IDS Multi-Purpose Hall.

In the Men’s Futsal match, the COE Dragons secured a two-goal advantage over the CASS Arachnids, ultimately concluding the game with a score of 3-1. Despite this outcome, the Damangs exhibited remarkable tenacity throughout the match even as the opposing team pressured high and forced turnovers. Despite the ending result, the Lethal Arachnids proved to be a resilient bunch who left the court with fighting spirits still in them for their upcoming match.

The Women’s Futsal against these two colleges started shortly after the conclusion of the Men’s Game 3. The Arachnids started off strong as they scored the first goal. However, the Dragons responded with a vengeance, matching the Arachnids’ intensity which led them to equalizing the game within the first ten minutes.

The remainder of the first half was a tense battle for control, with both teams creating scoring chances. Unfortunately for the Arachnids, the Dragons struck twice more, taking a narrow 3-1 lead. Despite the deficit, the Arachnids showed no signs of giving up as they came out strong in the second half and pulled one goal back. The game remained close, but ultimately, the COE Flaming Dragons held on for a 4-2 victory, both their teams winning back-to-back.

While the CASS Lethal Arachnids may have faced defeat in the opening rounds, there is still one more chance to bounce back. Both teams are gearing up to face off against the CHS Icy Sharks in their upcoming matches in the lower brackets today, April 28.
