Lethal Women Arachnids’ BBall Comeback Falls Through; Thanks Supporters

by Andrea Sedero

The CASS Lethal Arachnids fell short of their efforts to secure a spot in the 2024 PALAKASAN as the CEBA Griffin Gods powered through game six of the pre-games for Women’s Basketball on April 13 at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium.

After collapsing in the fourth quarter against the CCS Ascii Wolves in game five last April 3, the CASS Lethal Arachnids brought their A-game into this match against the CEBA Griffin Gods, hoping for a comeback in the double-elimination competition. However, a blowout by the Griffins resulted in a 17-33 loss for the Arachnids.

Right from the start, both teams engaged in intense action, with scores rising slowly due to tight defensive plays. The first quarter ended at 1-5, giving the CEBA Griffin Gods the lead.

The following quarters saw increased competitiveness as both teams' intensity heightened. Tight defensive plays led to only a slight uptick in scoring. Points were earned from offensive plays, but more so from free throws due to team fouls. The second quarter ended at 7-18, still in favor of CEBA.

By the third quarter, team fouls for both teams had reached their highest point in the match, with three each. Although the CASS Lethal Arachnids maintained high energy and steadily raised their score, they struggled to narrow the gap as the CEBA Griffin Gods continued to rack up points. This quarter ended at 16-26, with the Arachnids still trailing behind.

In the final quarter, the Arachnids faced difficulty in making successful shots against the Griffins. Team fouls piled up faster, and their score remained stagnant at 17 during the quarter’s second half. This allowed CEBA to stack up even more points, increasing their lead by 7 from the third quarter. The game concluded at 17-33, with the Griffin Gods claiming victory.

“I just want to say na good game gihapon and we tried our best na maapil mi sa semi [semi-finals] but wala jud. [Still], it was a nice game,” the Lethal Arachnids’ Captain said in a short interview after the team bowed and thanked the CASS supporters present last night.
