MSU-IIT holds 54th Commencement Ceremony

Culminating chapters of feat for another, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) sends off 1,797 graduates in the 54th Commencement Ceremony on July 8, 2024.


The institute bared an outstanding number of graduates that front the brand of academic excellence IIT has offered for its constituents to go beyond.


Accounting for 74% of the graduating class, 71 of which are graduating Summa Cum Laude, 667 Magna Cum Laudes, and 597 Cum Laudes.


In his opening remarks, Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan vouched for the implementation of progressive policies, highlighting the renewal of its commitment to produce “future leaders” and “changemakers” from the diverse people of Mindanao.


“For 50 plus years, we have been a place of hope and pursuer of hope in this part. These achievements are because of your conscious efforts in these areas, which are a testament to this community of excellence that you, my dear graduates, upheld to create” declared the Chancellor.


“MSU-IIT is a safe space where everyone may live a life authentic to them. Here, we don’t just tolerate differences, we celebrate differences,” he added, underscoring a holistic perspective of achievement.


This year’s commencement exercise shared the honor of having Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman’s as the commencement speaker, a lone Muslim woman from Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet as one of its economic managers.

In her speech, she addressed the graduates along with 10 important points that shaped even her ethos of public service while also tipping her hat off to graduates who have epitomized these principles in their stories of success.


These consisted of honest and focused hard work, kindness, gratitude, passion and advocacy, agility and adaptability, establishing real relationships, critical thinking, one’s agreeability, heritage, and final request for the graduates to take care of the environment.


“Be bold in your pursuits, ethical in your decisions, and compassionate in your actions. The world needs visionary leaders who are not only skilled and knowledgeable but also empathetic and committed to making a positive difference,” Pangandaman expressed as a parting message.


Meanwhile, the Class of 2024 Institute Valedictorian, Nofel A. Aballe, a Microbiology major from the College of Science and Mathematics, capped off his valedictory address in a striking line that hits home to his fellow graduands.


“Life is not supposed to be figured out. It is supposed to be experienced. It is supposed to be felt. It is supposed to be lived,” said Aballe.


He also received the coveted UNIFAST academic excellence award, bestowed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in recognition of its beneficiaries with the highest GPA in their graduating batch.
