CASS Crowns: LILACS’ Triumph of Grace and Wit

The most potent combination of venoms an Arachnid can possess is beauty and brains. As they explore the webs of college life, some venture out into different webs and undertakings. Beautiful in their nature, and paired with intellect and ambition, these young women from the College of Arts and Social Sciences navigate their academic journeys while also taking on leadership roles, creative pursuits, and community service.

Last August 9, 2024, the MSU-IIT Gymnasium was alive with excitement as the Binibining Sangguniang Kabataan 2024 unfolded—a prestigious event that brings together the brightest young women from various barangays of Iligan City to showcase their beauty, intellect, and willingness to community engagement. The competition not only highlights individual achievements but also serves as a platform for these young leaders to demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility and personal growth.

Among the standout participants was Ms. Yve Kay Francisco, a 3rd Year BA Language Studies student from the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS). Crowned as Binibining Sangguniang Kabataan 2024, Yve Kay also swept several special awards, including Ms. Telegenic and Binibining Eagles Pharmacy. Additionally, she was recognized as one of the top 5 best in advocacy awardees, further solidifying her status as a frontrunner in the competition.

Equally impressive were her fellow CASS LILACS candidates, a 3rd Year BA Literary and Cultural Studies student, Ms. Leamarie Hempesao, the first runner-up, who excelled with special awards for best in closed-door interview, Be A Hero Challenge winner, and advocacy video winner for her project “Poblacion's Pathways to Promises: An Educational Assistance for the Out-of-school Youth”; and Ms. Eloissah Rano, a 3rd Year BA Language Studies student, who secured the position of third runner-up and was ranked third during the closed-door interview.

All three are proud members of the Literature, Language, and Culture Society (LILACS). Their remarkable success in the pageant not only showcased their beauty and poise but also reflected their deep commitment to community service and leadership. The unique training and values instilled by their college department and society were evident in their thoughtful responses and impactful presentations, demonstrating how their involvement with the society had equipped them with a blend of intellect and social consciousness that set them apart.

“LILACS instilled in me a strong sense of purpose and social responsibility. The society's emphasis on community service inspired me to use my platform to make a positive difference. This commitment to social change undoubtedly set me apart from other candidates and allowed me to connect authentically with the judges and audience,” said Francisco.

As the curtains closed on the Binibining Sangguniang Kabataan 2024, it was clear that the event was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of youthful ambition and community spirit. The standout performances of Ms. Yve Kay Francisco, Ms. Leamarie Hempesao, and Ms. Eloissah Rano from CASS’ Literature, Language, and Culture Society demonstrated how beauty, intelligence, and social responsibility can come together to make a great impact. Their dedication to service and leadership not only earned them acknowledgment but also set a powerful example for their peers and the community. Their journey is a reminder to the youth that true leadership is rooted in a commitment to making a difference and embracing the values that drive positive change. In a world where the pursuit of excellence is often overshadowed by superficial concerns, these young women have shown that combining beauty and brains can be a potent force for making a difference.
