Buzzing minds of curiosity and a thorough search for “the one” filled the gymnasium with eagerness as the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology freshmen learned more about their college and university on the 13th of August 2024, during the Welcoming Week's Opening Program.
The Organization Fair, organized by the MSU-IIT Council of Organizations brought together the entire university community with the theme: “Festival of Fusions 2024: A CATalyst Convergence of Unity and Diversity,” to offer the university's newest constituents the best experience.
One of its purposes is to showcase the diversity within the walls of the university and to show the freshmen what extracurricular organizations are in store for them. Not only are there student organizations, but there are also faith-based organizations, cultural groups, and college publications.
Although it is an annual tradition, with every college participating in the event, this year is special as it marks a historic moment for the Dakilang Pamantasan to officially have its very own, "non-Moro", indigenous people’s organization.

The MSU-IIT Indigenous People Student Advocates (MIPSA) is a barely-month-old organization and is the first-ever IP advocacy group of MSU-IIT since 1968. This organization hopes to find more students to join their advocacy through this organization fair. Their long-term goal is to bring help and branch outside of the university walls, and towards those indigenous people who are truly marginalized by society.
“For now, we are a student organization. However, this advocacy is bigger than all of us,” stressed Jhon Dave Manos, MIPSA President.
With new organizations come the revival of another. The College of Computer Studies’ very own publication, The Motherboard, came back to life as a new and revitalized publication. Originally under the care of the college's Executive Council, Rimar Boter, a fourth-year BS Information Technology student, took it upon himself to help their outgoing Executive Council to officially make The Motherboard their official college publication. Their goal is to uplift journalism within their college and to help their students hone their writing skills.
“I know a lot of CCS students are interested in journalism; however, their talent and skills in writing and editing have not been properly catered to because there was no proper organization that could help in handling them,” said Editor-In-ChiefRimar Boter.
The College of Arts and Social Sciences’ very own CASSayuran made a vibrant appearance this year, its booth adorned with eye-catching balloons and banners and the unmistakable hum of conversation-starter activities. In hopes of gathering more passionate student journalists, the staff organized engaging mini-games like “Draw Your Voice,” “Opinion Poll,” and “Find the CASSayuran HEADS,” creating a lively atmosphere that drew in curious passersby. Informative brochures, filled with insights about the publication were available for viewing to those intrigued by the world of student journalism.
In addition to the featured booths, the fair showcased a wide range of organizations catering to various interests and academic pursuits including scholars’ associations, e-sports, and volunteer groups among others.
The Organization Fair was a colorful celebration of the unity and diversity that defines MSU-IIT. As freshmen explored the myriad of opportunities laid out before them, they not only discovered organizations that aligned with their passions but also began their journey toward making meaningful contributions to the university community. With each booth they visited, they took the first steps in forging connections that will shape their college experience and beyond.
