Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology welcomes the new Cats for the Academic Year 2024-2025 ‘purr’suing academic excellence and holistic growth through a Convocation and Orientation Program at the university gymnasium, on August 13, Tuesday.
The program aimed to equip students with the necessary ‘know-how’ in exploring the life and culture of the university, academic expectations, and the different opportunities the institute has to offer.
The cats roared in excitement as the University Chancellor Atty. Alizedney Ditucalan, in his welcoming address, officially bid them the embrace through his declaration that, “Influencing the future starts now.”
This is after the chancellor shared the university’s effort to bring quality education to students of various backgrounds through the implementation of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) Policy. This paves the way for first-generation learners, students with single parents, indigenous learners, and financially challenged students to access quality education in the institution.
Moreover, he further highlights that the services and enhanced functions of MSU-IIT were only dreams from generations ago. “Everything we see around here today was once the dream 55 years ago when the vision founded MSUIIT. Your free education, the zero tuition fee, was only a dream one generation ago, smart buildings and wifi in the campus — these were just dreams 25 years ago…”, he said. He further added that this is the reason why the university should multiply more dreamers. “This is why the vision must be shared by many so that its realization is not just from the confinement of any civil person’s term of office. “, the Chancellor added.
Chancellor Ditucalan applauds the faculty. “My dear students, you are so lucky because you have the best among the best mentors you can have in your life. The MSU-IIT faculty is a powerhouse,” he said. Ditucalan also reminded the faculty about their power to influence the future. “In this age where AI remembers better and analyzes better, our relevance lies in the difference that we can make in our students — in the confidence we build, in the compassion that we instill, and in the dreams we inspire. You are the influencers of the future.”, he added.
After Chancellor Ditucalan’s message, video presentations formally introducing the offices under the Office of the Chancellor, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Services, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs, and Office of the Vice Chancellor for International Affairs were shown.
An open forum segment was also made available for students to directly ask the concerned offices in relation to their academic and student welfare-related questions.
In between videos, an open trivia for the freshmen encouraged participation through the coveted university merch prizes.
In attendance were the 2700 freshmen from the 7 colleges who parade donning their respective colors.
This first event for Day 2 of Panaghiusa 2024 signalled a good start ahead for the cats.
