Marking a crucial step in their final year of college, fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Philosophy Major in Applied Ethics students from the Junior Philosopher’s Guild (JPG) convened for their Practicum Pinning Ceremony on Friday, October 18, celebrating the culmination of their hard work and their readiness to embark on their practicum journey.
Held at the Institute Mini Theater, JPG’s current senior batch was proudly named “Vivant,” a moniker that encapsulates their dynamic spirit and their commitment to the field of philosophy.
In his opening remarks, Asst. Prof. Lex Rei Hilario, batch Vivant’s practicum adviser, expressed his hopes for the pinning ceremony to persist in the years ahead, noting, “This ceremony began last year with the aspiration that this tradition will carry on.”
He conveyed his sincere wishes for them as they commence their practicum in teaching, “As this group embarks on their practicum in teaching ethics across various fields here at IIT, we aim to send them off with our best wishes, not only to educate students but also to shape the future of IITians for a brighter tomorrow.”
Asst. Prof. Hilario along with Prof. Fernando Garingo, the Department of Philosophy’s Chairperson, pinned the fourth-year students in this meaningful tradition before they collectively took an oath to uphold and defend the integrity of philosophy, reinforcing their commitment as future educators and ethical leaders.
Sweet Mary Erv Aviles, one of the newly pinned students of Batch Vivant, shared her thoughts on the significance of the event stating, “The pinning ceremony marked us as officially pinned practicumers.”
She emphasized the pride and joy she felt having reached this milestone, reflecting on the hard work and dedication that led her and her batchmates to this moment. “The event felt like a big achievement; we’re finally pinned and almost there.”
The ceremony not only recognized the culmination of their academic efforts but also underscored their dedication to their roles. As they begin their practicum experiences, the newly pinned “Vivant” batch is prepared to make meaningful contributions to the academic community and beyond.
