Narnia’s Volleyball stepladder semifinals ignited intense action as three teams from both the men’s and women’s divisions locked in high-stakes battles for the coveted final spot in the championship on Saturday, January 25.
In a thrilling afternoon of volleyball matchups, the Literature, Language, and Culture Society’s (LILACS) Isle of Glossa asserted their dominance in the women’s division, sweeping MSU-IIT’s Sociology Society’s (MISS) Isle of Koinos in straight sets, 25-13, 25-22.
The victory set the stage for their next challenge against the Kabataang Pilipinong Aakay sa Bayan’s (KAPILAS-Bayan) Isle of Neoleides, where they once again showcased their strength with a commanding 25-23, 25-22 win.
From an early drop into the lower brackets to a triumphant rise to the top, LILACS’ Glossa secured their place in the finals. They are set to face the formidable Psychology Society’s (PsychSoc) Isle of Psyche, who dominated their way to the championship with an unblemished record.
When asked about the upcoming finals against Psyche, April Velono, a 3rd-year BA ELS student from Glossa, shared: “We’re feeling excited and proud. Last year, we were the first team eliminated, and now we’re just one step away from the title.”
In the men’s division, MISS’ Koinos made a strong statement, first defeating LILACS’ Glossa in straight sets, 25-19, 25-13. They followed it up with another solid performance against MSU-IIT Historical Society’s (MIHS) Isle of Chronos, winning 25-18, 25-23.
With back-to-back wins, Koinos cemented their spot in the finals, where they will face the unbeaten KAPILAS-Bayan’s Neoleides, who swept through the winner’s bracket to claim their spot in the championship.
John Mike Balde, a 2nd-year BA Sociology student from Koinos spoke about his expectations for the finals, saying, “We’re focused on keeping the momentum going, staying connected on the court, and maintaining our teamwork,” he said.
The stage is set for an exhilarating championship showdown in both the men’s and women’s divisions. In the women’s bracket, Glossa will challenge the undefeated Psyche, while in the men’s division, Koinos will face off against unbeaten Neoleides.
With momentum on the line and the title within reach, all four teams are ready for an epic championship game this morning, January 26 at the Institute Gymnasium.
