The morning of January 27 was spent in an air filled with rhythm and joy as resident serenaders of the Seven Isles delighted the crowd with only the best song renditions in celebration of the second day of the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) Days. The Fantastic Singer and Acoustic Jam brought about different facets of the participating societies together in an exchange of music and talent.
The participants chose to dabble in different genres of music, showcasing a wide range of musicality and versatility. Izshi Niña Nikola Saluta, a third-year student from the Junior Philosophers’ Guild (JPG) proudly commented, “The Fantastic Singer and Acoustic Jam have shown different genres of music that really hyped up all students. We have heard of an opera, a rap, a Filipino classic, pop music, love songs and many more. It really showcases the diversity of music that we enjoyed listening to.”
The show was opened by the MSU-IIT Historical Society (MIHS), who inhabit the Isle of Chronos. Fantastic Singer contestant Frankie C. Peñaflor set the tone of the performances with his ballad renditions, which were matched with the same energy by their Acoustic Jam performers.
Neoleides’ Kabataang Pilipinong Aakay sa Bayan (KAPILAS-Bayan) and Glossa’s Literature, Language, and Culture Society (LILACS) opted to go for a fun and vibrant vibe as they hyped up the gymnasium with songs that could pump up any listener with adrenaline for their Acoustic Jam performances. Fantastic Singers Kylene H. Castillon (KAPILAS-Bayan) and Carmel Eve Villegas (LILACS) started their acts with sentimental pieces but ended with absolute bangers.
The Political Science Society’s (PSS) Logos, Psychology Society’s (PsychSoc) Psyche, and Junior Philosophers’ Guild’s (JPG) Sophia sprinkled love in the atmosphere as their Acoustic Jam and Fantastic Singer performances centered around love songs in different forms. Performers Mary Irene Magaro (PsychSoc) and Franzin Veign Antoniette B. Bacolod (JPG) told their versions of romance through their acts. Fantastic Singer Mary Irene Magaro from PSS was the only participant who went the theater route, singing her renditions of opera music.
The Isle of Koinos, home to the MSU-IIT Sociology Society (MISS), closed the program with ballads sung by Fantastic Singer contestant Allesandra Kaye C. Limalima and soft and interactive music performed by their Acoustic Jam participants.
“In my three years of experience during the CASS Days kay I think this is one of the best gyud na akong nakit-an. Na feel jud sa each participants ang hype sa crowd, especially from the societies,” Angel Jazzaniah Judit, third-year LILACS student, happily shared.
The day’s performances not only shed new light on the musical prowess of the inhabitants of the Seven Isles but also brought together its people like never before through songs and shows of camaraderie. Although this celebration has ended, it certainly would not be the last and the sound of music shall echo throughout Narnia in a different time once more.
