AI-ntertwined: ASPAP Holds Special Lecture on AI and Governance for PolSci Undergrads

By Adam Vincent Perez

To navigate the link between Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Association of Schools of Public Administration in the Philippines (ASPAP) shared their insights with 3rd-year BA Political Students of MSU-IIT as part of their Lecture Caravan Series on March 10, 2025, at the University Boardroom.

Dr. Juvy Lizette Gervacio from the University of the Philippines Open University (UP-OU) opened the discussion on AI and its integration towards academia, emphasizing the existence of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) which offer free educational resources accessible online. She highlighted the importance of democratizing information, particularly as digital nomads increasingly rely on AI for learning.

Prof. Maricel Carag from the College of St. Benilde, De La Salle University (DLSU), presented a case study on AI usage among college students, showing the most commonly used AI tools, the varying reasons as to why students prefer to use them, and their level of confidence in the information or content produced.

Students enrolled in POS117: Special Topics in the Philippine Government course, who attended the lecture, expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the lecture series. They engaged in discussions with speakers, asking questions to gain further insights into the emerging relationship between AI and Public Administration.

The event was organized by the faculty of the MSU-IIT Political Science Department, with Dr. Elmer Soriano, Dean from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, serving as the moderator throughout the program.

Earlier that day, MSU-IIT Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan welcomed the ASPAP team, led by President Dr. Michville Rivera, during a courtesy visit. This meeting was in line for the upcoming ASPAP National Conference and General Assembly, which will be held by MSU-IIT from November 26 to 28, 2025.
